According to Sanjay Manjrekar, Babar Azam is still a rising star while Virat Kohli's career has stretched over 15 years.
Virat Kohli of India and Babar Azam of Pakistan have frequently been contrasted with one another over the years. The argument about who is superior to the other continues despite the fact that both have played significant roles for their countries.
Former athletes Sanjay Manjrekar and Tom Moody recently shared their thoughts on the superstars.
Yes, both are excellent players. In the Asia Cup this year, you might just see a glimpse of Babar Azam and possibly see where he fits in, said Manjrekar in an interview with Star Sports. "One obviously in his prime younger, but coming to these kind of platforms we want to say Virat Kohli and see with the format that we have here not the T20 format," said Manjrekar.
Compared to Kohli's 275 ODIs, Babar played just 108. In the format, the former is averaging 58.4 runs with 5142 runs, while the latter is on 57.3 runs with 12898 runs.
Even though they both have been amassing runs and are beautiful to see when they are at the top of their games, Kohli has a reputation for being a brilliant chaser. Moody, however, thinks Babar is also skilled at running a pursuit.
I firmly believe that he is. He does, in fact, have a very Virat Kohli-like approach to business. He uses real cricket shots. As Kohli has done for more than a decade, he appears to comprehend and read the game very well. He is an adept chaser, much as Virat Kohli has shown to be over the course of many years. There is a lot of similarity between the two, so I wouldn't claim that Virat would do better at the Asia Cup than Babar Azam, but they can both face equal pressure, and it will be fun to watch them both bat because they are both popular, says Moody.
While pursuing Babar's average of 56.65 runs with 2436 runs, Kohli has scored 7384 runs at a 64.20 average. The former stands out for his ability to control the ball in middle overs and switch up towards the end. Although the latter has demonstrated the ability to rotate strike in middle overs and is more of a run accumulater, it has not yet demonstrated the ability to accelerate under pressure like Indian Star.
Unlike Virat, Babar would be in charge of his team at the ICC Cricket World Cup in India as well as the next Asia Cup in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Babar may feel a little more pressure because of this, but he seems to like the leadership role because he has scored 1783 runs in ODIs at an average of 68.57 whereas Kohli amassed 5449 runs at an average of 72.65.
