Regarding Pakistan's top-order lineup for the ODI World Cup 2023, Aakash Chopra has made an important observation.
The opening match between Pakistan and the Netherlands in the quadrennial event will take place on October 6th.
The ODI World Cup 2023, which is slated to take place in India from October 5 to November 19, is just around the corner. Pakistan, under the leadership of captain Babar Azam, is motivated to outperform their performance from the last tournament in 2019, where they were unable to advance past the quarterfinals.
The Pakistani squad is now playing Afghanistan in a three-match One-Day International series in Sri Lanka, and they are doing well, winning the series 2-0. The opening batsman for Pakistan, Fakhar Zaman, poses a worrying problem. He has had trouble with his batting in both of the series' games
Aakash Chopra questions the effectiveness of Fakhar Zaman
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra recently posted a video on his YouTube channel in which he casts doubt on Zaman's ability to open for the Men in Green at the 2018 ODI World Cup.
Zaman's ability to continuously put forth excellent performances was questioned by the 45-year-old, especially when facing spin spinners. Chopra claims that Zaman is a potential weak spot in Pakistan's top-order batting for the much awaited event since he frequently loses his wicket to spin.
In 72 games, Fakhar Zaman scored more than 3000 runs at an average of 48. His ten centuries have included three from Asia. In Asia, his average actually drops. It changes to 38.9, which actually indicates that it might be spinning. He frequently throws his wicket in the direction of the spin. Fakhar Zaman might therefore be the tiniest weak link, according to Chopra.
Aakash Chopra expresses admiration for Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam
On a more positive note, Chopra had words of praise for Imam-ul-Haq and Babar, two key figures in Pakistan’s ODI lineup who have shown remarkable consistency and success in the format.
“Imam-ul-Haq – 61 matches, 2871 runs at an average of 52. His average jumps to 56 in Asia. Three of his nine centuries have come in Asia. Imam-ul-Haq is a good player. Babar Azam comes after them. He is brilliant in this format. More than 5000 runs in 102 matches. His average becomes nearly 64 in Asia and is 58.4 otherwise,” the Agra-born cricketer concluded.
On October 6, Pakistan's first match in the ODI World Cup 2023 will take place against the Netherlands. The most anticipated event of the competition, a high-stakes contest between Babar's Pakistan and Rohit Sharma's India, is set for October 14 at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium. Cricket fans from all over the world are looking forward to this match.
